The “Payson Utility” Guide: Who to Call for Power, Water, & Internet

“Congratulations, you bought the house! Now, how do you keep the lights on and the Netflix streaming? Moving to the Rim Country means leaving some of the big city providers behind. Here is your essential checklist for setting up your mountain headquarters.”

The List:

  1. Electricity: APS (Arizona Public Service)
    • The Mountain Bear Note: In Payson, we don’t have a choice of providers. It’s APS or candles. Make sure to ask them about their “Time-of-Use” plans—cooling a home at 5,000 ft is different than the Valley, but peak hours still bite.
  2. Internet: The Big Three (Optimum, CenturyLink, Sparklight)
    • The Mountain Bear Note: This is the #1 question I get. “Can I work remotely?” Yes, but check the address before we close. In town, Optimum usually offers the highest speeds (Cable). If you are further out (Star Valley/Pine), you might be looking at Starlink or Viasat.
  3. Water/Sewer: Town of Payson vs. Private Water Companies
    • The Mountain Bear Note: If you are in town limits, it’s the Town of Payson. If you are in a community like Mesa del Caballo, you might be on a private water company. Always verify the “Certificate of Convenience and Necessity” (CC&N) boundaries if you are unsure.
